Jaume Plensa Spanish, b. 1955

Born in Barcelona, Jaume Plensa studied art at the Llotja School and the Escola Superior de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi. He first gained recognition in the early 80s with his distinctive wrought iron sculptures, later adding light and writing to his signature animalistic and humanlike forms.

Using traditional materials such as glass, alabaster or bronze alongside more unusual elements of text, water and sound, Plensa has made a name for himself as one of the most renowned public artists. Best known for his monumental figurative sculptures, his work is displayed in cities in Spain, England, Korea, France, Japan, Canada, and the USA. He has won several awards, including the Mash Award for Excellence in Public Sculpture in 2009 for his work Dream.

At present, he divides his time between his residences in Paris and Barcelona.
